The following information describes activities that PSC has been involved in as well as the activities that PSC is currently leading or participating in. Each section describes the corresponding project with background information plus a list of objectives.
Note that the "Risk Assessment" project does not have a detailed background description at this time.
Import Inspection Project / Risk Assessment
Project Summary: Contract with FDA to develop risk-based approaches for detecting the likelihood of illegal, unsafe, or otherwise unacceptable shipments bound for the United States.
The Food Safety Laboratory
Project Summary: The Food Safety Laboratory, a Bio-Safety Level 2 microbiological laboratory was established in 2001. In accordance to the Evaluation of New Test Methods for Microbiological Analyses contract between FDA and PSL, the laboratory has been conducting analyses of rapid screening methods pertaining to fresh fruits and vegetables (imported and domestic) for microbiological contamination. Global Food Traceability Forum
PSC is the U.S. point of contact for the Global Food Traceability Forum. New and existing members that are based in the U.S. will not only have national support through PSC, but will also have access to a "central repository" of information that includes upcoming events, meetings, news, and products. PSC will also be providing food product traceability news and information to the Global Food Traceability Forum. [more...]
